Salzburg-West is a motorway junction of the Austrian western motorway (A1) located in the municipality of Wals-Siezenheim . It has the numbering Exit 297 and is at motorway kilometer 296.3.

history

On September 13, 1941, the first two motorway sections of the Reichsautobahn in the "Ostmark" were released: from the makeshift junction in Schwarzbach, about 0.7 km west of the border on Walserberg , to the Salzburg-Mitte motorway junction and from the Salzburg junction to Motorway junction Salzburg-Süd at Anif - Grödig . By the time work was stopped in 1942, a total of 16 kilometers of motorway had been completed to Salzburg-Nord. The Salzburg-West motorway junction was part of this first section of the motorway in Austria. Shortly after the change into the 21st century, the municipality of Wals-Siezenheim began planning a roundabout on the west side of the junction. This has now been implemented.

Traffic volume

According to ASFINAG's traffic statistics, the Salzburg-West junction was frequented by an average of around 40,000 vehicles every day on weekdays; On Fridays and Saturdays the daily average was 43,000 and 34,000 vehicles, respectively. There were around 32,000 vehicles on Sundays and public holidays. The traffic to the north was slightly higher than in the opposite direction.

At the Salzburg-West exit, heading east and west is the 324.9 km long Wiener Straße (B1) , an Austrian state road that takes a short distance to the city of Salzburg and Walserberg .
