Auxonne-Marie-Théodose de Thiard , comte de Bissy, (* 1772 in Paris , † 1852 ) was a French general and politician .

Life

Thiard was born in Paris in 1772. His father Claude de Thiard de Bissy held the offices of lieutenant-general of the Languedoc province , camp marshal of the royal army, governor of the city of Auxonne and the Tuileries palace . For this reason he has not seen his home country for a long time. In 1791 he joined the army of emigrants , in which French emigrated fought against the revolutionary troops and did not return to France until 1800 .

In 1802 he was appointed General Councilor of the Saône-et-Loire department by the First Consul . At the end of November 1804 he was elected by Emperor Napoleon as “his ordinary chamberlain”. He is present at his anointing at the imperial coronation and follows Napoleon to Italy in April 1805 . In the same year 1805 he is also present in Austerlitz . After a short service with the 9 e regiment de dragons , he met the emperor again in Jena and the emperor appointed him governor of the districts of Meißen , Upper and Lower Lusatia as well as commander of the Bavarian and Württemberg troops .

In February of the same year, Thiard resigned from all his duties and offices for reasons unknown.

After he had returned his Chamberlain key and his Legion of Honor to the emperor, he lived in seclusion on his estate in Vaulry ( Saône-et-Loire department ).

In 1814 he went back to arms to defend his homeland. Thiard was appointed adjudicator in command of the National Guard. Louis XVIII appointed him maréchal de camp , knight of St. Louis, officer and soon afterwards commander of the Legion of Honor . During the Second Restoration and the July Monarchy, he made another political career and preached liberal ideas.

General Thiard died in 1852.
