Five-part Avanto on the Paris light rail line T4

Avanto is a family of trams from Siemens Mobility that is also suitable for operation on mainline tracks .

concept

The Avanto concept provides for multi-system vehicles in steel construction, which largely meet the requirements of full-line operation on standard gauge . Features of such a five-part vehicle are, depending on the length of the vehicle, 70 to 80 percent low-floor space between the entrance doors , two drive bogies at the ends of the vehicle and flexible, adaptable exterior and interior design.

France

Paris

On November 18, 2006, the first eight-kilometer route, the T4 line , was inaugurated in Paris . Between the two Parisian suburbs of Aulnay-sous-Bois and Bondy , Avanto operate as trams on a former railway line outside the towns. That is why the Avanto are also known as Tram-Train . Line T4 is a connection between the two RER lines B and E. The railcars are standard-gauge and capable of two systems for 25  kV at 50  Hz and 750 V DC . The units here consist of five parts with a total length (with covered couplings) of 36.678 meters and a vehicle height of 3.52 meters with the pantograph lowered. With a net weight of 59.7 tons and a vehicle width of 2.65 meters, the units are approved in Paris for a top speed of 100 km / h. The second and fourth car body sections each run on a two-axle drive. A driveless box is hung between the two. The two end car bodies are also supported on the Lauferk segments, the end of the driver's cab runs on a two-axle motor bogie. The floor of the car is higher above the motor bogies and can be reached via steps.

The Parisian units have five pivoting sliding doors on each side of the vehicle with an additional sliding step to compensate for the width between the platform edge and the vehicle floor. In addition, the 80 percent low-floor units are fully air-conditioned, equipped with a video surveillance system for the interior and entry areas and a passenger information system. A train has 80 seats, 6 of which are foldable. On the T4 line, the trains carried around 35,000 passengers between eleven stations every day before the expansion to Montfermeil went into operation. The operator is the French railway company SNCF , which has ordered 15 vehicles from Siemens. There was also an option for 20 more units. At SNCF, these railcars are run as the U 25500 series.

Avanto Tram-Train in Thann St-Jacques

Alsace

On December 12, 2010, the Avanto officially started operating on the tram in Mulhouse as Tram-Train Mulhouse – Vallée de la Thur in Alsace. For this purpose, the SNCF bought twelve also five-part vehicles, these are known as U 25500. The order value was around 50 million euros. The trains leave Mulhouse main station on tram tracks and continue on railway tracks to Thann through the Thurtal .

The maximum speed of the vehicles is 100 km / h with an output of four times 130 kW. The vehicle length with the coupling covered is 36.678 meters, the vehicle width 2.65 meters. The empty weight is 59.7 tons.

United States

In the USA , Avanto, known there as Siemens S70, are currently used in the local transport systems of various major cities. Currently these are:

The railcars of the US companies are usually designed in three parts with only one middle part of the running gear.
