The Avro Type 694 Lincoln was a four-engine long - range bomber from British production. The maiden flight took place on June 9, 1944. This type, developed from the Avro Lancaster , was the last Royal Air Force bomber to be powered by piston engines. A total of 604 machines were manufactured.

history

The Avro Lincoln entered service in August 1945, making it too late for World War II . However, it was used against uprisings in two British colonies, namely Kenya ( Mau Mau uprising ) and Malaya , before being decommissioned and replaced by new jet-propelled bombers . The air forces of Canada , Australia, and Argentina also flew the type. The Avro Lincoln was further developed to become the Avro Shackleton maritime patrol aircraft . Individual machines later served as test carriers for propeller turbines .

Production numbers

The Lincoln was built in Australia by Government Aircraft Factories in Fisherman's Bend / Victoria. The first 25 were B.30, the rest B.30A.
