history

The machine was the Avro 511 modified for an air race . For this purpose, the wings of the 511 were replaced with a reinforced version and the aircraft was equipped with a lighter landing gear.

In May 1914 , the aircraft was modified for an air race, the Aerial Derby Race around London; As part of this conversion, which consisted of aerodynamic improvements (hull in V-shape), the machine was renamed to Avro 514.

The 514 suffered a technical defect while taxiing from the Avro company premises in Brooklands towards Hendon, the starting airfield of the race, and was therefore unable to participate.

Although the damage was repaired, the machine was flown again in July 1914, but the Avro 514 was not further developed due to the outbreak of the First World War .
