Axel Buchner

Axel Buchner (born May 15, 1961 in Stuttgart ) is a German psychologist . He teaches at the Heinrich-Heine University in Dusseldorf , where he the Chair of General Psychology and Industrial Psychology holds. From 2010 to 2014 he was Vice Rector , and since 2014 he has been the University's CIO .

Life

Axel Buchner was born in Stuttgart. He studied psychology at the University of Trier , at the University of Minnesota in Saint Paul and, as a Fulbright scholar , at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst (both USA ). After his community service , Buchner went to the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn in 1989 , where he completed his doctorate in psychology (with the minor subjects computer science and theoretical medicine) in 1992 . After various activities as a research assistant, university assistant and university lecturer at the Universities of Bonn and Trier, Buchner received the Venia Legendi in Trier in 1998 in the subject of psychology for his habilitation thesis "On the separation of controlled and automatic memory processes".

In 2000 he switched to the professorship for general psychology and industrial psychology at the Institute for Experimental Psychology at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. From 2010 to 2014 Buchner was also Vice Rector for University Management and International Affairs in Düsseldorf, after which he took over the office of CIO.

research

Buchner's research focuses on the basic research on the areas of attention , perception , working memory , long term memory , learning and multinomial modeling of cognitive processes. Applied research concerns the perception of distance in road traffic , working memory performance in noise , the display of text on the screen, the design of signs and the acquisition of knowledge from multimedia learning environments. There is also technology research, for example on assistance systems in motor vehicles .

Memberships and functions

Buchner was and is a member of the editorial boards of various specialist journals. He is a member of the German Society for Psychology (DGPs), the "European Society for Cognitive Psychology" and the "Psychonomic Society". Buchner regularly works as an expert for research funding institutions and foundations .
