Axel Lieber (* 1960 in Düsseldorf ) is a German artist .

biography

1978 to 1985 he studied with Tony Cragg and Irmin Kamp ( Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf ), 1978 to 1981 education and philosophy at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . In 1983 he founded the artist group Haus Waende with Stefan Demary , Heike Pallanca, Wolfgang Robbe and Klaus Schmitt and in 1992 the group inges idee (art in public space) with Hans Hemmert, Thomas Schmidt and Georg Zey. From 1991 to 1993 he was a professor of sculpture at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. From 1995 to 1998 he was a lecturer at the Malmö Art Academy and from 1999 to 2000 at the Jyske Art Academy, Århus. From 2000 to 2002 he taught sculpture again at the Malmö Art Academy. In 2004 he filled a visiting professorship with inges idee at the Bauhaus University Weimar . 2006 to 2007 was visiting professor there .

He lives in Berlin and Malmö .

Axel Lieber uses everyday objects as reference objects and alienates their materiality by semantically gutting them and filling the resulting gaps with new content. This creates synaesthetic overlaps and oppositions that inspire the sculptures, as it were, and transport the viewer into an intimate sphere.
