Klaus Schmitt

Klaus Schmitt (* 1955 in Korschenbroich ) is a modern, abstract German artist , sculptor , painter and graphic artist . The artist became known in particular for his non-representational overlapping line paintings.

education

Klaus Schmitt passed his Abitur in 1973 in Mönchengladbach . After graduating from high school from 1973 to 1976, he studied Catholic theology, educational science and art with Joachim Bandau at RWTH Aachen University . He then continued his studies from 1977 to 1983 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . There he was a master student in Günther Uecker's master class . In 1982 he received the PS 1 scholarship combined with a six-month studio stay in New York . In 1995 Klaus Schmitt spent two months in Italy with the Transfer 3 project . In 2006 he was appointed to the board of directors of the Mönchengladbach Art Association and has curated the exhibition program for it ever since.

Klaus Schmitt is a member of the German Association of Artists . He lives and works in Mönchengladbach.

In his works he looks for independent, ambivalent image structures that arise through chance and planned procedures. Characteristic of his work are the colored lines that traverse the picture surface vertically, horizontally and diagonally. The nodes create areas and spaces in which linearity dissolves. As a sculptor, he complements this approach in three dimensions.
