Baron Axel Nilsson Ryning (* 1552 ; † January 8, 1620 at Penningby Castle ) was a Swedish imperial admiral and statesman .

Life

Origin and family

Axel Ryning came from a the Swedish peerage belonging sex . His parents were the Swedish statesman Nils Eriksson Ryning († 1578) and Ingeborg Eriksdotter, née Trolle († 1590). He married Margareta Claesdotter Bielke (1584-1629), but left no children.

Career

Ryning began his career in 1577 as a chamberlain with Duke Carl . He accompanied him to Germany and was also his princely counselor by 1584 at the latest . He was sent to Narva in 1590 to negotiate with the Russians . He was sent to Bach Holstein in 1592 to pick up Duke Carl's bride, Christine von Holstein-Gottorp (1573-1625). From 1593/1594 to 1598 he was governor of the Stockholm Palace . In 1599 and 1602 he was sent to Denmark for negotiations. From 1599 to 1602 he was governor of Viborg and in 1601 was promoted to imperial council . He was Imperial Admiral from 1602 to 1612. During this time he was also governor in Reval and in the Duchy of Estonia from 1605 to 1608 and governor of Nyköping and Lagman in Södermanland from 1611 . From 1612 until his death he was Reichsmarschall . On the occasion of Gustav II Adolf's coronation in 1617, Ryning received the knighthood . He was buried on July 16, 1620 in the Länna Church in Uppland .
