Axel Tyll
Axel Tyll (born July 23, 1953 in Magdeburg ) is a former German soccer player. In the GDR Oberliga , the highest East German division, he played for 1. FC Magdeburg , with whom he was three times champion and three times GDR cup winner . In 1974 he won the European Cup Winners' Cup .
Soccer career
Tyll grew up as the son of the referee supervisor Rolf Tyll and began playing football at BSG Motor Mitte Magdeburg and was delegated to 1. FC Magdeburg in 1966. In the 1969/70 season Axel Tyll was GDR junior champion with 1. FC Magdeburg and won the GDR junior soccer cup. He made his debut in the first team of 1. FC Magdeburg in 1970 at the age of 17 . The 1.76 m tall midfielder played a total of 317 competitive games from 1970 to 1982, including 233 league, 44 national and 40 European cup games for 1. FC Magdeburg. In his league games Tyll scored 40 goals, plus three came in European Cup games.
Tyll played four international matches for the GDR national soccer team from 1973 to 1975 . While preparing for the 1974 World Cup, he was part of the squad, but was ultimately not nominated. In 1972 he was a member of the GDR Olympic team, which won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Munich (1 final game).
He achieved his greatest success with 1. FC Magdeburg in 1974 when he won the European Cup Winners' Cup . In the final against AC Milan , Tyll prepared the goal for the 2-0 final score.
In 1982 Tyll had to undergo meniscus surgery. The new trainer of the 1. FCM, Claus Kreul , was not convinced by the fitness of Tylls. Tyll therefore wanted to switch to Wismut Aue , but this was not allowed. He therefore switched to training in the district league for unit Wernigerode . After German reunification, he was in charge of 1. FC Wernigerode, which was formed from the merger of Einheit and Germania. He later taught sport, economics and technology at the August-Hermann-Franke secondary school in Wernigeröder and, after its closure in 2004, became a sports teacher at the Thomas Mann secondary school in Dardesheim. Axel Tyll also played in the traditional team of 1. FC Magdeburg for several years before two artificial hip joints finally put an end to his sporting activities. He has been retired since 2016.
Axel Tyll is widowed and has two children.
