Aymo Brunetti

Aymo Brunetti (born February 20, 1963 in Basel ) is a Swiss economist .

Life

Aymo Brunetti studied economics at the University of Basel , where he in 1988 with the licentiate graduated and then as a teaching and research assistant at the Institute of Economics worked. In 1992 he did his doctorate with Silvio Borner at the University of Basel. rer. pole. From 1992 to 1994 he was a freelance researcher at the Institute for Economics at the University of Basel. In 1994/1995 he was a visiting scholar at the Department of Economics at Harvard University . He then worked as a senior assistant and freelance researcher at the Institute for Economics at the University of Basel. In 1996 he completed his habilitation in economics at the University of Basel, after which he took on an assistant professorship there. From 1997 to 1999 he held a chair for economics at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken . From 1999 Brunetti taught as adjunct professor at the University of Basel, and from 2007 as honorary professor at the University of Bern. From 1993 to 1999 he took on consulting mandates at the OECD , the International Finance Corporation , the World Bank and UBS, among others .

In March 1999 he joined the Federal Department of Economic Affairs (FDEA) as Vice Director of the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Labor , and from July 1999 he was a member of the management team at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), where he was head of the Economic Policy Fundamentals division. From 2003 until he left the federal service at the end of January 2012, he was Head of the Economic Policy Directorate at SECO. Since 2012 he has been a full professor for economic policy and regional economics in the Department of Economics at the University of Bern . In addition, he has been Managing Director of the Economics Institute at the same university since 2014. From 2012 to 2019 he was Managing Director of the Center for Regional Economic Development (CRED) at the University of Bern.

In 2009/2010 he was a member of the expert commission set up by the Federal Council , which developed approaches to alleviating the " too big to fail " problem. He was head of an expert group set up by the Federal Department of Finance (FDF) for the further development of the financial market strategy. The expert group published its report in June 2013. From September 2013 to December 2014, he was the head of an expert group set up by the Federal Council consisting of representatives from science, the private sector and the federal authorities to further develop the financial market strategy, in particular to strengthen the competitiveness of Switzerland as a financial center by improving the domestic framework and maintaining or improving market access abroad . The expert group's final report was published in December 2014. The mandate was limited to the end of 2014. In place of the expert group, the FDF set up an Advisory Board for the Future of the Financial Center until the end of 2019, which was headed by Brunetti. This advisory board ensured the regular exchange of all relevant actors on questions of financial market strategy and, detached from the daily business of the authorities, assessed the strategic challenges and future prospects for the financial business in Switzerland with a view to the entire economy.

Brunetti is the author of numerous books and articles. In NZZ - economists ranking it belonged 2014 (6th place), 2015 (9) 2016 (11) 2017 (9), 2018 (9th) and 2019 (6) of the most influential economists of Switzerland.

Brunetti is married, has two children and lives in Biel-Benken .
