Azidamfenicol is a drug from the group of amphenicol - antibiotic that is structurally the chloramphenicol resembles.

It is only suitable for topical use . It can be used in the form of eye drops to treat bacterial conjunctivitis . In contrast to chloramphenicol, azidamfenicol is readily soluble in water. The spectrum of sensitive pathogens is similar to that of chloramphenicol. Ready-made preparations are not or no longer on the market in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

chemistry

The chemical synthesis of azidamfenicol starting from azidoacetic acid methyl ester is described in the literature.
