Bárbara Dührkop Dührkop (born July 27, 1945 in Hanover ) is a Spanish politician of the Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) and was a member of the European Parliament from 1987 to 2009 , most recently as deputy chairman of the PES group.

Life

After graduating from the Philosophical Faculty of Uppsala University in 1971, Dührkop went to Hamburg and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg as a lecturer . In 1978 she became a language teacher at the Instituto Usandizaga and the German School San Sebastián , which she took over as chairman in 1995. Her husband Enrique Casas , who had been a member of the PSOE in the Basque Parliament since 1980 and the PSOE's top candidate for the upcoming election, was murdered on February 23, 1984 by the Comandos Autónomos Anticapitalistas (CAA).

From 1987 to 2009 Dührkop was a member of the European Parliament , where she was coordinator for the PES group in the Committee on Culture and Education from 1989 to 1994 . She then held the post of deputy chairman of the budget committee until 1999 . In 1999 she became a member of the Executive Committee of the Socialist Party of the Basque Country . In the 2009 European elections , Dührkop came second to last on the PSOE list, so that she has not been a member of parliament since.
