The Bödeli is the alluvial plain between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz in the Bernese Oberland . The Aare flows through it.

On the Bödeli are the communities of Unterseen , Interlaken and Matten , which form a closed settlement area, as well as the communities of Wilderswil and Bönigen on the southern edge . Unspunnen Castle was also located on the Bödeli, and the first Unspunnen Festival took place near its ruins in 1805 .

During the Second World War , General Guisan's army headquarters and the Interlaken Reduit airfield were located on the Bödeli, protected by five artillery works of the Bödeliwerke in the rock faces around the Bödeli.

The Aar glacier advanced to the Jura during the last ice age . After the glacier retreated, a continuous lake, the Wendelsee , formed from Meiringen to Thun . The Lombach from Habkern and the Lütschine deposited debris in the lake. These two floodplains grew together from the north and south and thus formed the Bödeli . From the southwest a range of hills, the Rugen , juts into the Bödeli. The Rugenbräu brewery is named after him.
