Bürgle

The Bürgle is an Outbound hilltop castle on 595  m above sea level. NN on the boundary of Sölden and Wittnau in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district in Baden-Württemberg .

history

The castle was first mentioned in 1115 as "destructo castello". It was probably the castle seat of the Lords (Counts) of Scherzingen and was allegedly demolished when Geraldus von Scherzingen gave his Allod Selden to the Cluny Abbey for the foundation of the women's monastery in Sölden - the nuns of the Bollschweil monastery were supposed to move to Sölden for this purpose .

investment

The castle site is located east of Sölden on a wooded ridge that runs in an east-west direction. On the hill called Birkle , the castle area is located in the area of two rocks, the cavity of which was probably also used. In the west and east, the castle was separated from the same-height terrain by a neck ditch , in the north and south it was protected by the steep slopes. The Sölden local history researcher Franz Kern estimated the size of the castle in 1973 as follows: the south and west walls were each 22.50 meters long and the north wall was 16 meters long, and he also imagined a gate on the east side.

Nowadays there are remains of infill masonry on the castle grounds.
