history

The first generation of the BAC Mono was presented in March 2011 in Stuttgart as part of the Retro Classics . He made his racetrack debut that same year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed . In 2015 it was revised and got a more powerful engine.

The Mono was developed by BAC engineers from Cheshire in collaboration with the Adaptive Space design team from Stuttgart. The vehicle was built by hand in Liverpool . The parts for this come from around 100 suppliers. The street-legal sports car was not officially sold in Germany.

Mono One

At the end of the first generation of the Mono, the manufacturer presented the Mono One, limited to three copies, in February 2020 . The three vehicles are painted in white, black and red. A total of just over 100 first-generation vehicles were built.

technology

The BAC Mono is extremely lightweight and has a weight of less than 600 kg. The body of the sports car is largely made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic . The vehicle has only one seat for the driver. As in Formula 1, the steering wheel must be removed to get into the vehicle . In addition, neither a roof nor a windshield is available for the Mono . Similar vehicles include the Ariel Atom , the KTM X-Bow and the Radical SR3 .

During production, each vehicle was individually tailored to the buyer's body shape. The size of the seat, the pedal range and the steering wheel position are adapted to the ergonomic requirements of the customer.

drive

Initially, the sports car was powered by a 213 kW (290 hp) 2.3-liter Duratec engine modified by Cosworth . From 2015, a 227 kW (309 hp) 2.5-liter petrol engine from Mountune was responsible for the drive. In addition, the introduction of the new drive was accompanied by the installation of a drive-by-wire system.

The Mono should accelerate to 100 km / h in 2.8 seconds, Briggs Automotive specifies a top speed of 275 km / h.

Since the auto salon on February 28, 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the presentation took place on March 3, 2020 via the Internet. The design is influenced by that of the Mono R presented in 2019 . The road approval is valid for all of Europe.

drive

The second-generation base model is powered by a turbocharged 248 kW (337 hp) 2.3-liter petrol engine, which was again developed by Mountune. The acceleration to 100 km / h should take place in 2.7 seconds, the manufacturer specifies the maximum speed of 274 km / h. The Mono R has the engine from the previous model with an output of 254 kW (345 hp). It should accelerate to 100 km / h in 2.5 seconds, the top speed is specified as 240 km / h.
