The steam locomotive series kkStB 56 was a freight train - Tender Locomotive series of kkStB .
After row 48, it was the next triple-coupled freight locomotive procured by the kkStB itself. In contrast to its predecessors, it had an internal frame and internal controls to deal with the problems with cracks in the Hall cranks. From 1888 to 1900, 153 units were delivered by the Floridsdorf locomotive factory , the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik and the StEG locomotive factory .
They were of course mainly used in freight transport. The large front and rear overhangs required a top speed of only 50 km / h. Their areas of application were on the Western Railway as well as in Bohemia and Moravia . Accordingly, they were spread over the entire area of the monarchy.
After the First World War, representatives came to the series with the CSD as a series 324.1 (20) to the PKP as a series Th20 to the FS than 261 and the railways of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and later as number 127 on the JDŽ . 38 copies came to the BBÖ .
After Austria was annexed to the German Reich in 1938, the Reichsbahn classified 13 pieces as 53 7131–43. Only one machine survived the Second World War , which the ÖBB classified as 253.7140 and which was eliminated in 1958.
The last copies were listed at ČSD until around 1950.
