The steam locomotive series kkStB 48 was a freight train - Tender Locomotive series of kkStB .

The 23 locomotives were supplied by the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik and the Lokomotivfabrik Floridsdorf from 1885 to 1889 . They were the first machines that were classified according to the new scheme developed by Hermann von Littrow , and were therefore assigned the series number  48 . In addition, they were the first triple-coupled freight train locomotives with a tender that were procured by the kkStB itself.

After the First World War , 15 locomotives came to the BBÖ , which they retired by 1932 . Some came to the PKP , which they eliminated without assigning them their own series number. The remaining machines came to the FS as series  223 .
