The BV Wolfenbüttel Wildcats was a basketball club from Wolfenbüttel , which consisted of a women's Bundesliga team and various leisure teams. Until 2011, the Bundesliga team played under the name BC Wolfenbüttel in the predecessor club BC Wolfenbüttel eV, which filed for bankruptcy that year.

In the 2011/12 season Wolfenbüttel took first place after the Bundesliga main round and finally won the German championship .

In March 2013, BV Wolfenbüttel waived the playoffs in the 1st women's basketball league due to financial difficulties and was thus determined to be relegated to the 1st DBBL. In June 2013, the association filed for insolvency after financial claims against the predecessor association BC Wolfenbüttel had been transferred to BV Wolfenbüttel following a court decision. The Wolfpack Wolfenbüttel team was founded as the successor organization, and legally this team operates under Baskets Sportmarketing GmbH. This team plays in the 2nd women's basketball league .

history

The team took 2nd place in the German Cup competition in 1991 and became German runner-up the following year . At that time, the former national player Marlies Askamp played in Wolfenbüttel. After relegation to the 2nd women's basketball league , the team was able to climb back to the 1st women's basketball league ( DBBL ) for the 2008/09 season . In the 2010/2011 season, the team was able to qualify for the TOP4 (the final round of the German Cup competition) and took 4th place in the cup competition.

On September 12, 2011, BC Wolfenbüttel eV applied for insolvency proceedings to be opened at the Braunschweig District Court. In order to continue the game operation, the game operation was continued in a new team called BV Wolfenbüttel Wildcats . This team belonged to the newly founded basketball club Wolfenbüttel eV

In the following year Wolfenbüttel took first place after the Bundesliga main round and finally also won the German championship after defeating SV Halle Lions 3-2 in the final series .

Towards the end of the 2012/13 season, BV Wolfenbüttel's Bundesliga team became aware of considerable financial difficulties. At the beginning of March 2013, five points were deducted from the team because the club had not met financial obligations towards the league. On the last game day of the season at the end of March it was announced that they would not participate in the playoffs and that the Wildcats Wolfenbüttel were relegated from the 1st DBBL. According to newspaper reports, the Wolfenbüttel eV basketball club filed for insolvency in June 2013, and insolvency proceedings were opened on September 25, 2013.
