The Wolfpack Wolfenbüttel was a basketball team from Wolfenbüttel that played in the 2nd women's basketball division until 2018 . It is the successor to BV Wolfenbüttel Wildcats .

In the 2017/2018 season, the Wolfpack took third place after the main round and surprisingly won the championship of the 2nd Women's Basketball Bundesliga North in the subsequent playoffs. The team merged with the basketball department of Eintracht Braunschweig in summer 2018 and has been playing under the name Eintracht Braunschweig LionPride in the 1st women's basketball league since the 2018/2019 season .

history

Wolfpack Wolfenbüttel was founded in 2013 as the successor to the insolvent BV Wolfenbüttel Wildcats. The new beginning should take place with a sustainable, regionally oriented concept in the 2nd women's basketball division. The main focus was on a mix of young German players and some import players, mainly from the United States. Hanna Ballhaus became the trainer . Rüdiger Jacob was hired as assistant coach . In the first season (2013/2014) under Ballhaus, the team reached seventh place with a record of 10-12 wins.

In the 2014/2015 season they were able to reach the playoffs of the 2nd women's basketball league for the first time as third in the main round (balance: 15-7). The Wolfpack was eliminated in the semifinals against the second in the main round BG 74 Veilchen Ladies with 1: 2.

Also in the 2015/2016 season, the Wolfpack reached third place under coach Hanna Ballhaus and qualified for the playoffs (balance: 13-7). In the semi-finals they beat second table TG Neuss Tigers 2-0 in two tight games. However, Wolfpack had to admit defeat 0-2 in the final against TK Hannover . After three successful years, trainer Hanna Ballhaus announced her departure.

In the 2016/2017 season, Pierre Hohn took on the role of coach, who moved from league competitor Eintracht Braunschweig Basketball to Wolfenbüttel. Under him, the Wolfpack was able to build on the performances of previous years and finished the main round in second place (balance: 18-4). In the semi-finals, third-placed GiroLive Panthers faced Osnabrück as opponents. In a close series, the Wolfpack decided the semifinals 2-1 for themselves. The subsequent final against the BG 74 Veilchen Ladies was clearly lost 0: 2. Coach Pierre Hohn left Wolfenbüttel after only one year and moved to Eisvögel USC Freiburg . Assistant trainer Rüdiger Jacob switched back to the youth field.

Christian Raus was introduced as the new coach for the 2017/2018 season . He was supported by assistant coach Frank Lagerpusch , whose daughter Rebecca moved from league competitor Eintracht Braunschweig Basketball to Wolfenbüttelern. The Wolfpack started the season poorly. After defeats in the cup at BG 89 AVIDES Hurricanes, relegated to the Bundesliga, and in the league at SG Bergische Löwen and a significant defeat in the home game against BBZ Opladen , Christian Raus was dismissed on October 13, 2017. Assistant trainer Frank Lagerpusch initially took over on an interim basis. The new assistant coach was Lennart Arendt , with whom Lagerpusch had already worked in the youth basketball league at the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig . Under the new coaching team, the balance sheet could be improved so much in the first half of the season that the management decided to keep the interim solution until the end of the season. To counteract the strain on the big positions, Flavia Behrendt (2nd team) and the Macedonian national player Nena Trajchevska were signed shortly before the transfer deadline . Trajchevska was only able to intervene in the penultimate game of the season against Citybasket Recklinghausen due to delays in issuing her visa . The Wolfpack Wolfenbüttel was able to move into the playoffs as third in the table despite a false start with a balance of 14-6. In the semifinals, an old friend was waiting with the TG Neuss Tigers . In a physically led series, the Wolfpack dominated the Neuss team after a narrow opening defeat. In Game 2, a new playoff record was set with a 87:43 win. The Wolfpack also won game 3 away from home. Between the semi-finals and the final, it became known that Wolfpack Wolfenbüttel will withdraw after five years and that it will merge with league competitor Eintracht Braunschweig. In the final, the GiroLive Panthers Osnabrück were waiting. Due to the changed game mode, the Wolfpack began with a home game against the main round first. Wolfenbüttel could clearly prevail in the home hall with an 84:68 and went with a 1-0 lead to Osnabrück. In Game 2 followed 62:54 and thus the 2-0 decision in the series. After a five-year absence, the Wolfenbüttel team were promoted back to the first women's basketball division with the youngest team in the 2nd Bundesliga. The right of promotion was passed on to Eintracht Braunschweig Basketball after the merger. At the end of the season, coach Frank Lagerpusch also announced that he would end his career as a coach.
