history

1899 Established as a company health insurance fund for the maintenance of the canal stretch from Papenburg downwards and the entire Emden port facility in the area of the royal waterway construction inspection to Emden; Number of members: 234 people

In 1914, the fund was given greater responsibility and also a new name: General company health insurance for the district of the water engineering office and the mechanical engineering office in Emden. Membership in 1925: 1,450 people

In 1933, with the liberal Weimar Republic, the self-administration of the company health insurance funds ended. In order to avert a union with the health insurance of the German Labor Front , the railway and postal administration merged their numerous individual funds into one total fund. Following the example, the fund merged with the company health insurance funds of the Reichsverkehrsbetriebe Potsdam , Hanover and Magdeburg to form the company health insurance fund of the Reichsverkehrsverwaltung, Hamburg.

In 1941 further company health insurance funds were incorporated into the company health insurance fund of the Reichsverkehrsverwaltung. On January 1, 1942, there was for the first time a single company health insurance fund for the entire Reich Traffic Administration. Membership in 1942: 29,000.

After numerous start-ups and amalgamations, the “Company Health Insurance Fund of the Federal Ministry of Transport” was set up in Bonn in 1951 . In 1958 the headquarters were moved to Hamburg.

In 1968 the cash register had five district offices: Emden, Hamburg, Mainz , Munich and Münster ; In 1990, after reunification, another district office was set up in Berlin .

In 1999, the company health insurance fund of the Federal Ministry of Transport, as a modern service company, supported 40,000 members and 13,000 family members.

On January 1, 2004, the company health insurance fund will open to everyone nationwide on the basis of the right to freely choose health insurance providers introduced in 1996. Through a merger with the BKK Public Service Koblenz , the cash register becomes BKK BVM.

On July 1, 2004, it joined forces with the City of Karlsruhe Health Insurance Fund and now looked after 72,000 insured persons. On April 1, 2006, the BKK BVM merged with the SPAR company health insurance fund , thereby expanding the number of insured persons to around 80,000.

On January 1, 2009, it merged with Schwenninger BKK and has been using their name ever since. The merger now looks after around 300,000 insured persons, making it one of the 50 largest health insurers in Germany.
