Bağlarbaşı (Kurd. Ernas ) is a village in the Midyat district of the Turkish province of Mardin .

location

Bağlarbaşı is located in southeastern Anatolia at 970 m above sea level, about 14 km northeast of Midyat. Other localities in the area are distributed as follows:

population

In 1965, Bağlarbaşı had 942 residents. In 1985, 840 people lived in Bağlarbaşı. In 2009 the village had 469 inhabitants.

history

Bağlarbaşı means beginning of the vineyards / gardens . The original place name was Arnas. It is registered in this form at the land registry office. The name was changed before 1965.

The village was originally populated by Assyrians and Christians and was also called Urdnus. The monastery church Mor Quryaqos (Mor Kyriakos) was built in 971.
