One day the anger of their children, who are shattered by the situation, explodes and the entire settlement is driven to collapse.

The world premiere took place on February 25, 2020 as part of the competition at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival . A cinema release in Italy is planned for April 16, 2020.

action

A nameless male first-person narrator finds a girl's lost diary. Behind the mundane entries in green ink, which end abruptly to his annoyance, he imagines “a true story” “based on lies”.

Rome, in midsummer: the befriended families Placido and Rosa live in a sterile row of houses in the bacon belt. Father Pietro Rosa, who helps develop hygiene products, shows his children over at dinner and lets them read their excellent certificates. Father Bruno Placido has been unemployed for several months, only dedicates himself to sport and can no longer feel any joy. When he set up an inflatable pool in his garden and it was used by the entire neighborhood, he secretly destroyed it one night. Together with Pietro, Bruno indulges in rape fantasies about an attractive friend at a party.

Dennis, Bruno's son, is seduced by the precocious Ada. But he falls in love with the uncouth Vilma, who is a few years older. She is seven months pregnant, unmarried and helps out in the school canteen. Dennis also goes to a class with Geremia, who is called "Spasti" because of his slowness and silence. Geremia lives with his father Amelio in a converted caravan in the forest. Amelio, formerly known as a womanizer, now works in a restaurant. He avoids invitations to other families and instead prefers to teach his son how to drive. Amelio is pleased that the Rosa family is bringing their daughter Viola, who has not yet had measles, together with the sick Geremia. Viola had previously suffered from head lice, after which her hair had to be shaved. Since then she has been dependent on a wig.

Shortly before the end of the summer vacation, Bruno Vilma confides in himself that he was working with others on the development of a bomb. Vilma doesn't believe him, but soon a bomb is found by chance in Geremia's home. It has to be defused by a bomb disposal squad. The news that Geremia developed the bomb as part of a school project spread quickly in the neighborhood. Dalida, Dennis' mother, becomes aware of another bomb in her children's room, which also needs to be defused. Bruno beats Dennis in front of his younger sister Alessia after asking if the relationship between his parents was good. The children's teacher, Professor Bernardini, who has since been dismissed from school and who also tutored Dennis during the holidays, manages to hold one last lesson. In this he reports to the suicidal pupils about the easily available pesticide malathion . The children of the settlement then kill themselves with it one early morning. The screams of the mothers howl through the neighborhood. Only Geremias survives, who starts a new life with his father in another city. At the same time, television images of a family drama that were shown at the beginning of the film are shown - Vilma and her boyfriend of the same age drowned their baby and then fell from the balcony to their death.
