The bath at Spreewaldplatz (colloquially Spreewaldbad ) is an indoor swimming pool in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg . It is located at Wiener Straße 59h on Spreewaldplatz. The outdoor facilities are located on the premises of the Görlitzer Park .

history

The pool was opened as a leisure pool on February 1, 1987 according to plans by the Christoph Langhof architecture office after five years of construction. In 2003 the tiles, filters and measuring technology were renovated . In 2007 the diving pool had to be closed because the steel beams in the ceiling had rusted through. A year later, extensive renovation took place here too.

Equipment and use

In the pool there is a 25 m sports pool with six lanes as well as a diving and diving pool with a 1-meter and a 3-meter diving board . There is also a 12 m × 8 m large wave pool , a children's pool, a water slide and a non-swimmer pool with dimensions 16.7 m × 8 m. For people with disabilities , changing rooms with shower and toilet have been set up; the bathroom also bears the barrier-free Berlin logo . Two dry saunas with plunge pools and relaxation rooms complete the offer. The pool is used by Germany's oldest swimming club, the Berlin swimming club from 1878 . In addition to the Stadtbad Neukölln, it was the only swimming pool in Berlin where Muslim women were allowed to wear a burkinis for a defined period of time . The pilot test in 2009 showed that in future this full-body swimsuit will only be permitted as an exception in this Berlin bathroom.
