The Sindelfingen swimming center is a bathing complex consisting of indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a sauna in the town of Sindelfingen in Baden-Württemberg . In the Stuttgart region , it is the largest outdoor pool with 3,610 m² of water and 60,000 m² of sunbathing area, and the only indoor pool with a 50-meter sports pool.

The outdoor pool was built as a "forest outdoor pool" by architect Erwin Spier in a two-year construction period for DM 10 million. It opened on June 27, 1964. The 17 meter high diving platform quickly became a symbol of Sindelfingen. In 1966 the German Swimming Championships took place in the pool . After installing a gas heater in 1967, the water could be heated to 22 degrees. There was also a floodlight system for operation in the evening hours. In the summer of 1967, 411,587 visitors came, 45,000 on the weekend of 24/25 alone. June. In 1969 there was a record attendance with 600,000 bathers, 30,700 of them on July 25th. 4.2 million visitors were counted in the first ten years. On the occasion of the anniversary, the 1st Sindelfingen Summer Night Festival took place in 1974. It was held until 1989 and was one of the two big festivals in Sindelfingen, with over 30,000 visitors in some cases, alongside the International Street Festival.

On July 23, 1983, what was then the longest water slide in Baden-Württemberg, at 106 meters, was put into operation at a cost of DM 450,000. From 1997 to 2004, the Antenne-1 beach parties took place with up to 13,000 visitors. From 1999 an open-air cinema was always held at the end of July . On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the outdoor swimming pool and the 50th anniversary of the Floschenstadion , the exhibition “Sport writes Sindelfingen history” took place in 2004 in the town hall. At the beach party for the anniversary were u. a. guest pop stars Martin Kesici , Overground and Mr. President . In 2005, extensive renovation work was completed. The adventure pool was equipped with a stainless steel pool, and the children's and family area was redesigned. The costs amounted to EUR 4.6 million. Since then, various events such. B. with the Tigerenten Club or the "Fun & Action Pool Party". In 2010 one of the two non-swimmer pools was filled in for financial reasons. In the winter months of 2014/15 and 2015/16, the sports pool and diving pool were given a pool head (pool border) made of stainless steel for 1.5 million euros.

A triathlon for everyone has been held since 2013 . The "World Championship" in splash diving has been held every year since 2015 . On March 7, 2020, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the athletics department of VfL Sindelfingen, the German cross-country championships took place on the lawns of the outdoor pool .

Furnishing

There is a 50-meter lap pool with eight lanes. There is also a separate diving and diving pool with a ten-meter diving platform. The so-called "adventure pool" offers a wave slide and a twin slide as well as a flow channel. The water slide is 106 meters, the longest in the Stuttgart region. There is also a paddling pool and playgrounds for children. The pool that was filled in in 2010 is now a beach volleyball field . The large lawns are laid out like a park. Gastronomy and barbecue areas complete the offer.

Initially, a common indoor pool for Böblingen and Sindelfingen was planned, but it was not possible to agree on a location. In June 1968 the planning for an indoor swimming pool and the Glaspalast , a sports hall, was approved. In January 1969, the Sindelfingen municipal council approved the space allocation plan and the architectural competition for the new indoor swimming pool. The winner of the competition was the Sindelfingen architect Friedrich Tober. On April 10, 1973, the cost estimate of DM 25 million was approved. On December 11, 1976 the bath was used as a bathing center Sindelfingen with u. a. a 50-meter sports pool and a five-meter diving platform as well as a separate sauna for men and women were inaugurated. There is a passage to the outdoor pool. The construction costs amounted to 30 million DM. With 1536 m² of water, it was the largest indoor swimming pool in Germany and had the largest self-supporting wooden roof of a hall in Europe. By March 1979 there were already more than a million visitors.

In 1987 the German Swimming Championships were held in Sindelfingen. In 1996 the "Erlebnispark am Badezentrum" opened with two restaurants and a disco. In 2000 the "Sauna Classic" was inaugurated. In 2003, and twice more in later years, the Australian national swimming team prepared for the Olympic Games in Sindelfingen. In 2006 a gym opened on the grounds of the bathing center. In 2007 the pool received a certificate from the European Waterpark Association . In 2008 a water climbing wall, a digital display for water and room temperature as well as a new sauna and steam bath were installed. In 2010, SOKO Stuttgart was shot in the bathroom over three days .

The indoor pool was visited by around 300,000 and the sauna by 27,000 in 2015. At the end of 2015, three options for renovating and expanding the bathroom were presented.

The indoor pool also has a 50-meter swimmer pool with eight lanes. The diving and diving pool has a five-meter tower and a six-meter high climbing wall. The non-swimmer pool measures 21 × 12.5 meters. There is also a children's paddling pool , whirlpools and solariums with coin slots, a sauna area and a range of massages.

Through the complex ozone - water treatment processes , the chlorine content is reduced. The heating of the large glass surfaces enables a better view to the outside and serves to save energy.
