The station is a saddle of the Mondsee Flysch Mountains between Zell am Moos am Irrsee (Zellersee) and Sankt Georgen im Attergau .

Location and landscape

The station is 817  m above sea level. A. between the Heissiger Höhe  ( 875  m above sea level ) directly to the northwest and the Saurüssel  ( 956  m above sea level ) to the south-east.

It lies from the west on the upper Golaubach (holding ditch) near Heissing , above Harpoint on the upper reaches of the Vöckla . The long valley of the Klausbach comes from Thalham on the Dürren Ager near St. Georgen from the east . This line separates the Saurüsselwald in the core of the mountain group around Saurüssel and Mondseeberg from the Glashüttenwald around Freudenthal north, which with Rehberg (Die Röten  819  m above sea level ) and Lichtenberg  ( 885  m above sea level ) already marks the northern edge of the Alps at Vöcklatal . The forest to the west below the Golaubach is called the Kronwald.

The Saurüssel – Glashüttenwald area is a large forest area. The name comes from the fact that several larger forest roads intersect here. The station is a large timber storage area. The name is recent. The Kropfbaumsink  ( 835  m above sea level ), which is historically more important as a transition, is just under a kilometer southeast .

geology

The ridge from the train station to the Kropfbaumsink is a mighty marginal moraine from the Mindel glacial period (around 450,000 to 400,000 years ago). It reaches 840  m . To the south of Bergerfang above the Hochmoos near Mondsee there is another moraine at the same height, various corresponding deposits in between are also considered to be of the Mindel period. The moraines here mark the ice edge of the Mondsee glacier as the tongue of the Dachstein glacier , and show that the basin between Mondsee and Irrsee was filled with more than 300 meters, including the Haslau . North in the Vöcklatal to Straßwalchen, in the foreland lobe, the Mindel moraines are only 610  m above sea level. A. There are few findings at the edge of the Atterseegletscher at this time, only above Hüttenberg directly to the east at around 760  m a minimum period of deposits has been found. It is therefore unclear whether there is a central moraine between the two glacier bodies. The peaks all around were certainly exposed as nunataks of the glacier edge area.

ways

The road that crosses the station along the height is marked as a hiking route. It leads up from Angern an der Vöckla or over from Lichtenberg , and leads over the Kropfbaumsink to the Hochmoos . A number of other forest roads in the Saurüssel area also lead here.
