The place is located 9 kilometers southeast of Straßwalchen and 23 kilometers west of Vöcklabruck in the area around the Zeller or Irrsee , just under 5½ kilometers northeast of Zell am Moos .

The Rotte is located in the Mondsee Flysch Mountains on the upper Vöckla at about 595  m above sea level. A. The young Vöckla breaks through here - coming from the Mondsee area after the Haslauer Weitung - between Schoibernberg  ( 883  m above sea level ) to the west and the north-west foothills of the Glashüttenwald and the Rehberg (Die Röten  819  m above sea level ) to the east. The valley then widens again, it leaves the Alps here and enters the Vöckla-Ager hill country as part of the Alpine foothills . At Frankenmarkt 5 kilometers further, it turns eastwards. The Salzburg state border bulges in the area around Straßwalchen far east into Upper Austria, Angern represents the southeasternmost place of this bulge.

Here the L1281  Vöcklatalstraße B1 runs near Schwaigern - B154 near Zell am Moos . The state border runs a bit along the Vöckla, and even crosses the other bank at the Zum Waldfrieden inn , so that it still belongs to Salzburg. Angern is distributed along the road (km 5.6–6.2) and comprises only 7 buildings, 2 of them in Upper Austria. This makes it one of the few places in Austria that is located in two federal states .

At Angern, the Stoifelbach flows into the Vökla from the right .

Geology, history, infrastructure and sights

On Stoifelbach is the right one tectonic scale of colored marl series of Ultrahelvetikum open, the European ceiling system of the Alps ( Lower Cretaceous to Eocene , 100 to 50 million years old). They form a window (geology) in the flysch zone ( rhenodanubian flysch ) which the Helvetic has pushed over: Otherwise there is Altlengbach formation on both sides here ( Maastrichtian - Thanetian , turn of the Cretaceous / Paleocene, 70–50 million years old). This fault, which runs along the entire northern edge of the Alps, forms the straight valley line Stoifelbach - Freudenthal - Hundbaumgraben (striped window) and is then found again at Nussdorf am Attersee (Breitmoosbach), as well as at Tannberg . Here it forms a small valley widening to the right of the Vöckla.

The place name stands for Anger , a public pasture area. The Angern Mühle , today's inn, is listed as early as 1787.

The remote location of Jagdhub belonged to the district court of Kogl des Attergau until 1823 (seat in the castle of St. Georgen ). Then a border adjustment took place between what was then the crown land of Austria above the Enns and the Salzach district , which at the time formed a part of the country . This brought some houses to Straßwalchen, at that time the Hochfeld district court , but two remained Obderennsisch.

Next to the inn there is a sawmill and a forester's house.
