Einstarten is a place on the edge of the Salzkammergut Mountains in the border region between Salzburg and Upper Austria and belongs to the municipality of Straßwalchen in the Salzburg-Umgebung district . Ederbauer with the former Westbahn stop is also part of Einstarten .

geography

The place is located 5 kilometers east of Straßwalchen and 7½ kilometers west of Frankenmarkt . Here the Vöcklatal meet to the east and the Irrsee area to the south, and to the northwest it leads via Straßwalchen into the Mattig valley and the Salzburg lake area . To the north is the Hausruck-und-Kobernaußerwald-Zug of the Alpine foothills , to the south of the Mondsee Flysch Mountains of the Salzkammergut Mountains . Einstarten forms a pass at the top of the Straßwalchen – Frankenmarkt gate landscape , in the Riedel from the Hochfeld south to the Watzlberg west. The Hainbach rises at Einstarten , which then goes westwards over Straßwalchen and then northwards over the Schwemmbach to Mattig and at Braunau the lower Inn . The Weinbach , which rises in the neighboring town of Schwandt , flows to the east and flows into the Vöckla , a tributary of the Traun near Vöcklabruck , behind the Langholz forest area near Schwaigern . The two sides of this watershed only meet again in Linz . To the north of Nößlthal , the Kirchhamer Bach also goes to the Vöckla, the watershed forms a sharp arc around Einstarten. The saddle forms with 612  m above sea level. A. the lowest point of the Riedel, to the south lies the Ecker Holz forest . At the watershed to the north, the Upper Austrian border also passes, but then continues eastwards to the Eisbach near Volkerding .

The village of Eingarden itself is made up of around 30  scattered houses on both sides of the saddle. The Westbahn runs here (km 278–279), and the Ederbauer stop is right on the saddle. Directly to the north, the B1 passes  Wiener Straße near Haid , where it has its pass. Both belong to the most important Austrian east-west connections (with the A1 south of Mondsee ).

Geology and history

View from Schober over the Irrsee , behind it the ridge Watzlberg-Hochfeld, the old terminal moraine of the Dachstein glacier (the dark one at the top of the picture is the forests of the Kobernaußerwald)

The ridge Hochfeld - Watzl Mountain is a powerful Endmoränenwall a tongue of the Dachstein glacier , in the Riss glaciation (about 200,000 years ago), not the first foray this time, (north-east are more Rißmoränenscharen), not the last (at Außerroid - floor mountain below there is another marginal moraine). However, this wall was piled up to 100 meters high and thus towers above the terminal moraines to the north of the actually more powerful Mindel glacier (about 400,000 years old) at the Krenwald and Kobernaußerwaldfuß . The last ice age, the Würm , only penetrated as far as Oberhofen .

The important Roman road Ovilava – Juvavum ( Wels - Salzburg ) ran in the area , and the Nezzeltal is documented as early as 748 to the north . The pass was probably originally by the neighboring corner , as the Ecker wood shows - eck a typical old passport name is - and that the local situation to the village of east lying Voglhub belongs. The tri-border region ore monastery Salzburg - Duchy of Baiern - Duchy of Austria has been a controversial area here since time immemorial . In 1667 Perntal appears here , a farmstead that was located right next to the railway on today's state border (Upper Austrian side) on the Weinbach, around 1830 it was still listed as Perntaller and was then abandoned. In 1787 the Innviertel of Bavaria came to Austria, and with it the Mattig Valley. At that time the Pernthaller and also Aigelsbrunn belonged west to the Höhnhart forestry court, a special jurisdiction of the former Bavarian district court Friedburg , directly east of the Perthaller the old Austrian regional court Frankenmarkt began , the homestead Rinthall (1830 Rinnerthaller , No. 10) but already belonged to the Salzburg district court on Höchfeld in Straßwalchen. Around 1830, the farms Edebauer  (Hnr. 12/13) Grabner  (Hnr. 14) and Wim  (Hnr. 16/17) are also listed here - called westwards . Eingarten is the time of Flurname the Hainbach source fields, as a place name, he appears only in the 20th century. The name Ederbauer has been transferred to the small hamlet on the other side of the Ecker Holz.

With the opening of the Kaiserin Elisabeth-Bahn (Westbahn) in 1861, the Ederbauer stop was built here. It is named after the farmer who made his grounds available. September 19, 1973 there was a serious train accident, a freight train hit a parked mail train. In 1979 the ÖBB wanted to rename the breakpoint to watershed , but the heirs referred to old contracts. On December 23, 2010 the stop was closed. To Vienna is the next station stop Pöndorf , Salzburg the stop Oberhofen-Zell am Moos
