The Baar train station is the largest train station in the Zug municipality of Baar . It is served by long-distance and regional trains.

history

Baar station was opened on May 31, 1897 as part of the Thalwil – Arth-Goldau line of the Swiss Northeast Railway . In 1913 a stop for the electric tram of the canton of Zug (ESZ) was added. The cargo handling of the Ägerital and Menzingen was carried out from now on in Baar. In 1931 the first train station was rebuilt. In addition to a pedestrian underpass, the railway facilities were expanded and a central platform was created. This happened in the course of the double-track expansion between Zug and Baar train station , which was extended in 1980 to the Litti service station in front of the Zimmerberg tunnel. In 1953, the ESZ was discontinued and the cargo handling took place at the Zug freight yard. In 1982, the clock timetable was introduced and the station was served every hour by a pair of trains - Zurich HB , which from 1990 figured as S1 of the Zurich S-Bahn .

From 2002 the station experienced a new era: The old station square gave way to a new one with three bus stations for connections to the surrounding area. From December 2004, as part of the introduction of the Zug urban railway, a total of five new pairs of trains served the Baar station and the station facilities were rebuilt again. Through traffic now stops at platform 3 (towards Zurich) and platform 1 (towards Zug). Track 2 was converted into a stump track and from now on served exclusively the Zug urban railway. At the same time, the station was served by long-distance trains for the first time with the hourly InterRegio Luzern –Zug – Zürich HB. In July 2006, construction of the new station building in Baar began with the demolition of the old building. A three-storey flat roof building with a red facade was built by 2008. The design came from the architects Gigon / Guyer. 30 million francs of the construction costs were contributed by the Migros pension fund , which acquired the property in June 2006, and 4 million francs from SBB . In addition to the SBB travel agency, the building also includes a number of business rooms that include a women's fashion shop and a hairdressing salon.

future

  • In the course of the 2nd partial expansion of the Zug urban railway, in which the S2 to Baar Lindenpark was extended, the extension to Baar was also up for discussion. However, this requires an extension of the third track from Baar Lindenpark to Baar station and the construction of a fourth edge of the platform in Baar. Due to the high costs, this measure has been postponed, but is planned for the medium term.
  • The SBB are planning to close the travel center after only two years, as they want to cancel operations in 100 to 150 medium-sized train stations.
  • On the northern side, some space was left during the renovation in order to be able to create a fourth track with a platform in the event of any necessary increases in capacity.
