Railway stations and stops in Saxony

The Coswig station (b Dresden) is an operating point of the Leipzig – Dresden railway line and the Borsdorf – Coswig railway line that joins here in the municipality of Coswig in Saxony . It is used for passenger transport by regional express and regional trains as well as the Dresden S-Bahn . The reception building is classified as a cultural monument.

history

When the section of the Leipzig – Dresden railway line that passed Coswig was opened on September 16, 1838, the Leipzig – Dresden Railway Company had not planned a station here. Almost two years later, on June 10, 1840, however, they set up the “stopping point” in Coswig, which was about 900 meters away from today's station in the direction of Leipzig. Coswig's first station was built with the construction of the Coswig – Meißen branch line that began in Coswig . Both opened at the same time on December 1, 1860. This station was between route kilometers 101.60 and 101.75 of the Leipzig – Dresden railway line.

After connecting to the railway network, Coswig developed into an important industrial community. This growth and technical development required a new station to be built just over 30 years later. The construction of the new reception building lasted from September 11, 1893 to June 4, 1894. It is still in use as a reception building today. In addition, the track system was raised and an island platform with a passenger tunnel was built.

Due to its linking function as a separation station, the station also had a few long-distance traffic stops for a long time; most recently, isolated interregios stopped in the mid-1990s in peripheral locations. Since then, passenger transport has been limited to local rail transport . Long-distance traffic has usually been using the newly built connection curve Weißig-Böhla since 2010, thus bypassing Coswig station to the east.

Between 2012 and 2015, passenger platforms 1/2 and 3/4 were rebuilt and brought to a height of 55 centimeters above the top of the rails.
