The Dade City Station was a train station in long-distance traffic and was last of Amtrak operated. It was located in Dade City , Pasco County , Florida .

history

In 1886, the Tropical Florida Railroad , a subsidiary of the Florida Railroad , opened a railway line from Ocala via Dade City to Plant City . The railway line was extended to Tampa in 1890 . Also in the 1880s, the route of the Inverness and Brooksville Railway from Dade City to Citrus Springs was opened. This route was closed in 1987 and later converted into the Withlacoochee State Trail .

Passenger traffic began immediately after the station was opened in 1912 by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad . In 1947 the Silver Star was introduced by the Seaboard Air Line Railroad on the line from New York via Dade City to Saint Petersburg . The station and operations were taken over by Amtrak in 1971 . From 1994 to 1995 and from 1996 to 2004 the Silver Star was replaced by the Palmetto passenger train , after which passenger traffic via Dade City was discontinued. Today, the section from Jacksonville via Dade City to Lakeland is served by the Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach long-distance buses .

On July 15, 1994, the station building was entered on the National Register of Historic Places .
