The DeLand Station is a railway station in long-distance traffic and is used by Amtrak operated. It is located in DeLand in Volusia County , Florida .

history

The station was opened in 1918 by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad . As early as 1884, the Jacksonville, Tampa and Key West Railway opened a branch that led from the main line directly to downtown DeLand. However, with the construction of the new station, the branch line was closed.

Until 2005 the station was a station of the Sunset Limited of the Amtrak railroad company from Orlando to Los Angeles . However, after the effects of Hurricane Katrina , the line was shortened to the New Orleans - Los Angeles route.

Connection

The train station is about five kilometers west of downtown DeLand. There is a connection to the Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach bus to Daytona Beach .

In addition to the Silver Meteor , Amtrak's Silver Star also stops in DeLand today .

From 2017 at the latest, the station should also be served by SunRail on the route from here via Downtown Orlando to Poinciana , which would make the Greater Orlando conurbation better accessible for local rail transport. The profitability of the extension from DeBary to DeLand has meanwhile been questioned, so that the realization of this section was postponed indefinitely.
