The Palatka Station is a railway station in long-distance traffic and is used by Amtrak operated. It is located in Palatka , Putnam County , Florida .
history
The station was opened in 1908 by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and originally served as a junction between the Florida Southern Railway , Georgia Southern and Florida Railroad and a branch of the Florida East Coast Railway . In 1988 the station building, which was last renovated in 2008, was entered on the National Register of Historic Places .
Until 2005 the station was a station of the Sunset Limited of the Amtrak railroad company from Orlando to Los Angeles . However, after the effects of Hurricane Katrina , the line was shortened to the New Orleans - Los Angeles route.
Connection
The station is right in the center of Palatka on US Highway 17 ( SR 15 ).
In addition to the Silver Meteor , Amtrak's Silver Star also stops in Palatka today .
