List of train stations in Switzerland |
The Ilanz train station is a station on the railway line Reichenau-Tamins-Disentis / Muster the Rhaetian Railway in the city of Ilanz / Glion . It is the largest public transport hub in the Surselva . Although the station is officially listed as Ilanz in all timetables, some of the station signs are labeled with the German-Rhaeto-Romanic double name Ilanz / Glion , as the majority of Graubünden German is the colloquial language, but a large proportion of the residents speak Romansh .
history
The station was built during the construction of the Vorderrheinlinie from Chur, which opened in 1903 to Ilanz. In 1912 the line was continued to Disentis in order to connect to what was then the Furka-Oberalp Railway . In 1922 the Vorderrheinlinie was electrified.
investment
The station has two platform tracks, one on the main platform and one with a central platform. The bus station in front of the station is approached by numerous Postbus lines.
The station was redesigned from 2017 to 2018. A four-track train station was created with a central platform that can be reached through an underpass. This connects the village center with the area north of the train station. Among other things, the railway technology was housed in a new building on the Rhine side. Office and changing rooms were newly built. After a good two and a half years of construction, the newly designed Ilanz train station was inaugurated with a small celebration in June 2019.
traffic
passenger traffic
The RhB serves the station with the RegioExpress line Disentis-Chur- Landquart - Scuol-Tarasp in each direction every hour. In addition, regional trains still run between Disentis and Chur at marginal hours. Ilanz station is the busiest station on the Vorderrhein line, with the exception of the two end stations. The trains of the Glacier Express used to stop in Ilanz , most recently in 2007/2008 one train per direction in winter traffic, a few years earlier almost all Glacier Express trains.
Freight transport
Ilanz has a high volume of freight traffic because the station is the main loading station for Valserwasser from nearby Vals .
Postbus
The station forecourt is one of the most important postbus hubs in the canton of Graubünden . Nine lines usually run at the same time - after the arrival of the train from Chur - in the direction of the surrounding villages.
future
According to the Graubünden traffic concept, various measures are planned for the Ilanz train station between 2012 and 2020:
- Construction of a park & ride facility
- Conversion of the station to three passenger tracks with a central platform.
- Increase in traffic to three trains per hour with a RegioExpress train Disentis - Scuol / Tarasp and two regional trains Ilanz – Chur – Landquart– Küblis and Ilanz– Reichenau / Tamins .
