The Kempen (Niederrhein) train station is the train station of the city of Kempen on the Niederrhein . It is located on the left Lower Rhine route . There used to be three other railway lines at the station, which are now closed: From 1902 to 1931 the Geldernsche Kreisbahn operated (Kempen - Wachtendonk  - Straelen  - Kevelaer ); the Kempen – Venlo line opened in 1867 and operated for over 100 years. Location and structure

Kempen train station is located immediately northeast of the old town. The railway line is double-tracked in the area of ​​the station and has two side platforms, of which the western one is the home platform . For this purpose, automatically generated announcements will be played over the loudspeaker attached to the dynamic text indicator. In 2020, Kempen train station will receive new, more modern and reliable display boards with which the traveler can be better informed.

Freight transport

The formerly extensive track system in the east of the station has now been removed and built over. In the north there is still an eastern siding and a siding. The chemical company Chemie Wall in Kempen is supplied with a freight train every week.

Krefeld Railway

The railway facilities of the standard gauge Krefeld railway were to the east of the station, east of the goods shed. A station building with a platform was available at the level of the state train station building, there was a loading street and two sidings. The handover to the state railway took place in the north of the station.

Small train station

The station of the meter-gauge Geldern circuit was north of the reception building on Kleinbahnstraße, the course of which also corresponds to the former route. The tracks ended bluntly in Kempen. In addition to a platform track, there was also a loading lane with weighbridge, a loading track for reloading to standard gauge and several sidings. A small station building with a goods shed was also available.
