Railway stations in North Rhine-Westphalia |
The station money is the train station of the city funds in Kleve on the Lower Rhine and is located on the Lower Left Rhine Railway .
history
The station was opened on March 5, 1863 on the left Lower Rhine route. The Haltern – Venlo line followed in 1874 . It was built by the Cologne-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft and touched Geldern to the south, but was connected to Geldern station with two branch lines.
Geldern Ost train station
In order to be able to develop Geldern without having to change the direction of travel , the railway company built the Venloer Bahnhof in Geldern in 1874 , which was renamed Geldern Ost in 1927/1936 . Traffic on the Haltern – Venlo railway line has been suspended since 1967. The site of the former Geldern Ost train station has now been completely built over, but street names such as Köln-Mindener-Bahn and Eisenbahndamm remind us that the railroad once ran there. The reception building of Geldern Ost is still there.
Unfinished connection between Geldern and Moers
Until 1914, the Geldern – Meerbeck line was built to connect Geldern with Moers. The foundations were already ready and only the rails had to be laid, but the First World War interrupted this project. After the war, the Allies forbade the completion of the railway line and afterwards the Reichsbahn lost interest in the line, so that there was never a rail connection from Geldern to Moers.

Location and structure
Geldern train station is located in the south-west of downtown Geldern. In its neighborhood there is a central bus station , which is itself a large bus hub. The old town is approx. 400 m away.
The station has a house platform and a side platform on track 2. Access used to be via a bridge at the southern end of the platforms. Since this was not barrier-free, the station was later made barrier-free. Today the platforms are connected by a pedestrian underpass at their northern end. There is a large square around this pedestrian underpass, to which the Niers Forum connects to the west. The large square is green and consists of serpentine ramps around stairways. The platforms are accessed on the one hand with stairs and on the other hand with flat ramps.
