The municipality Veert was incorporated into the city of Geldern on July 1, 1969.

Attractions

Klein Kevelaer Chapel, Tombergsweg

Built in 1699 and completely destroyed during the siege of Geldern in 1703, it was rebuilt in the same way in 1705. The coat of arms stone dated 1699 above the portal of the single-nave brick chapel reminds of the original chapel .

The chapel was added to the monuments list of the municipality of Geldern on May 9, 1989 under the number A 56.

Kölner Heiligenhäuschen on Heideweg

The oldest holy house on the Lower Rhine, built in 1686 by Cologne citizens who have been making pilgrimages to Kevelaer since 1663.

Saint Martinus Church

Gothic brick building from the 16th century, originally with three aisles, since the new building of the modern church in 1969 only two aisles. The furnishings include a neo-Gothic high altar from 1896 and a neo-Gothic Way of the Cross , the first ten stations of which are made of terracotta and the remaining four are painted. Stone figures

Willicksche Mühle, Kapellener Strasse

The Willicksche Mühle is the only one of the numerous watermills in Geldern that has survived. The mill, already mentioned in 1434, was driven by the Niers and worked until after the Second World War. The current building was built in two phases in the 18th century. Privately owned, best seen from the street. The mill was registered on August 9, 1994 under the number A 139 in the monuments list of the municipality of Geldern.

Windmill, Utrecht Street

The brick tower windmill was built in 1856 and clad with wooden shingles in 1965. In 2007 the windmill got its wings restored. Work on this began on April 28, 2007. In time for the 14th German Milling Day on May 28, 2007, Veert received a landmark back. It has been used for residential purposes since the 1950s. The mill is on the list of monuments under the number A36.

Blazon : "The coat of arms bears a silver (white) bar cross on a red background , which is covered with a black disc, on top of which is a five-petalled blue medlar flower with golden (yellow) clusters and golden (yellow) sepals."

Meaning: The Balkenkreuz (Cross of Cologne) stands for the citizens of Cologne who had made a pilgrimage to Kevelaer since 1663 and built the oldest holy house on the Lower Rhine in Veert in 1686. The medlar flower ( Geldrische Rose ) stands for belonging to Geldern and the red is reminiscent of the patron saint St. Martin , who is depicted in Veert's older seals.

The flag, which is also used as a banner, is a coat of arms flag .

The largest club is SV Veert 1934 eV . with more than 1,100 members. The cycling club “All-Heil” Veert 1900 has made a name for itself beyond local borders . The club has won many titles at world championships for unicyclists.
