The Madison Station is a former railway station in the long-distance transport , the last of the railway company Amtrak was operated. He was in Madison , Madison County , Florida .
history
The railroad era began in Madison in 1861 when the Pensacola and Georgia Railroad completed a line from Tallahassee to Lake City . In the 1880s, the Florida, Midland and Georgia Railroad built a line from Madison to Clyattville , but it was closed in 1972.
The route of the long-distance train Sunset Limited operated by Amtrak , which was introduced in 1971 and initially ran from Los Angeles to New Orleans , was extended in 1993 via Madison to Jacksonville (later to Miami and Orlando ). However, after the effects of Hurricane Katrina in August 2005, the line was shortened back to the original Los Angeles - New Orleans route. Since then, the only rail transport has consisted of goods transports, which are carried out by the railway company CSX Transportation .
