The Michel City Station is a transit station on the Odenwaldbahn in Michelstadt .
construction
Reception building
The reception building is a symmetrically designed complex with a gable-end middle section, which has two full floors, and two single-storey, eaves-like side wings. This original design was disturbed by the later addition of an upstream cabin for the dispatcher . With the renovation of the station and the modernization of the Odenwaldbahn in 2008, this disappeared, so that the original shape of the station was restored.
In the reception building of Michelstadt station there is a waiting area for travelers with digital information boards, a mobility center with DB travel center and a bistro.
Signal boxes
Michelstadt station was originally equipped with three mechanical signal boxes. The dispatcher interlocking Mf was located in an interlocking front building at the reception building and was of the standard design. In addition, the guard interlockings Mn in the north head and Ms in the south head of the station were available, which were mechanical interlockings of the Bruchsal J type. Around 1970 the two guard signal boxes were given up. Until 2008, the dispatcher interlocking provided the points and form signals for the station as well as the level crossing on Bundesstraße 47 south of the platforms.
On October 2, 2008, Deutsche Bahn took the Wf signal box out of service and connected the station to the Odenwald electronic signal box (ESTW) by October 20, 2008 . In Michelstadt, a new modular building (ESTW-A) was built for the ESTW, which is remote-controlled from the Groß-Umstadt Wiebelsbach train station . The signal box extension, which is no longer required, was demolished in 2008. The shape signals of the station were replaced by light signals according to the Ks signal system.
Traffic importance
Michelstadt train station is located a few hundred meters northeast of the core city of Michelstadt . Until the 1990s, the station's tracks were also used for freight traffic.
The station now has two platform tracks and a siding. Today only passenger trains stop here. Michelstadt train station is a junction point for local transport. It connects the city with the centers of the Rhine-Main area (direct connections to Darmstadt , Hanau and Frankfurt ). As a Park & Ride station , it therefore plays a special role in commuter traffic . With the attached bus station, there is a connection to the Michelstädter Citybus routes, the regional bus routes 27, ERB-30, 31, 33, 38, 40N, 41, 43, 44, 50 and other local public transport connections with the RMV lines 80, 81, 82 and 85 OREG . Due to the importance of Michelstadt as a school center in the Odenwald, this is also an important transfer point for school traffic .
A total of 30 covered bicycle parking spaces are available at Michelstadt train station, four of which are designed as bicycle boxes.
