The train station Erbach (Odenw) is the train station of the district town Erbach in the Odenwald . It is a through station with two platform tracks and a siding .
Geographical location
The station is at 30.8 km on the Odenwaldbahn , on a mountain slope above the old town of Erbach at an altitude of 221 m above sea level .
history
The Erbach station went into operation on December 24th, 1871, when the Odenwaldbahn , which was driven from north to south by the Hessian Ludwigsbahn , was able to open up to this point. The southern connection to Eberbach took place in 1882.

Tracks
The station has a central platform between the two platform tracks 1 and 2, which can be reached barrier-free via an access at the same height at the southern end of the platform . Next to track 2 there is a platform-free track that is occasionally used to park trains.
Reception building
The reception building was a symmetrically designed system with a gable-end middle section, which had two full floors, and two single-storey, eaves-wide side wings. This original symmetry was disturbed by the later addition of an upstream cabin for the dispatcher . With the renovation of the station, the station building was demolished at the end of 2010. The area that has become free is now used as a park-and-ride facility .
Freight hall
After the station building had been abandoned by Deutsche Bahn , the city of Erbach took care of the well-being of the travelers : It acquired the freight hall belonging to the station , a building from around 1900, converted it and equipped it with a waiting room , toilet and even a bistro for the travelers. They even sell tickets here. Today the goods hall is a cultural monument according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act .
Outbuildings
On the side of the track system facing away from the reception building there is a two-storey outbuilding from around 1870 with arched windows on the ground floor and wooden slat cladding on the upper floor. The water tank for the water crane to feed steam locomotives is located here . It was restored to working condition and put back into operation in 1995, so that steam locomotives can be historically correctly supplied with water.

Erbach station belongs to station category 6 and is served by the trains of the Odenwaldbahn, whose operation is provided by the Vias . The station is in the tariff area of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) and is now the terminus for most trains coming from the north from Darmstadt , Frankfurt and Hanau . There are interchanges to and from the buses of CityBus Erbach / Michelstadt well as numerous regional bus lines.
