The Potsdam Babelsberg Media City Station is at the Wetzlar train situated regional station in the east of Potsdam district Drewitz in the Babelsberg Media City and the Berlin local situation Steinstücken . It is listed under the abbreviation BDW in the operating point directory.
The station was opened on May 15, 1879 under the name Drewitz . From 1949 to 1990 he was a freight traffic border crossing point from the GDR to West Berlin. Numerous safety devices were installed for this purpose, such as special protective switches, which were intended to prevent the locomotive driver from driving unauthorized further towards Berlin-Wannsee (American sector of Berlin). Among these protective switches were also some derailment switches that only had a switch tongue and were supposed to derail the unauthorized departing train.
After the reunification of Germany , an ICE connecting train was set up from Berlin Zoologischer Garten via Drewitz to Michendorf when no contact wire from the west reached the Berlin city area.
On May 28, 2000, the name was changed to its current name to emphasize the location in the media city of Babelsberg .
The station building with a railroad workers' house and a farm building is a listed building .
