The Rudolstadt-Schwarza Station is a railway operating location in the district of Rudolstadt Schwarza . He's since 1874 in operation and was from 1883 to 2000 terminal station .

location

The station is located at 68.74 kilometers of the Großheringen – Saalfeld railway line (Saalbahn). It was also the starting point for the Rudolstadt-Schwarza-Bad Blankenburg route . Therefore, at the time of this route, Rudolstadt-Schwarza was a connecting station .

It is located in the district of Schwarza , a little east of its center, but over three kilometers from the Rudolstadt town center. Bundesstraße 88 runs parallel on the western side of the station .

The neighboring stations are or were: to the north the Rudolstadt (Thür) train station (distance about 4 km), to the south the train station Saalfeld (Saale) (distance about 6 km) and to the west on the disused line the stop Rudolstadt- Schwarza West (distance about 1 km).

In the original planning of the Saalbahn, no operating point in Schwarza was initially provided. Nevertheless, when the station was commissioned, a train station was opened there on May 1, 1874. There were only very modest facilities for passenger and freight traffic. At that time, the train station was outside the town. The railroad led to the development of the surrounding areas. The reception building corresponded to that of the train station in Uhlstädt . After 1912 there was an extension.

In 1879 the station had six points. The track system was only expanded further with the opening of the branching line to Bad Blankenburg in 1883. A two-tier locomotive shed was built with a turntable in Saalfeld . Around 1905 the shed was demolished and the turntable removed because most of the trains went to Rudolstadt.

In 1880 a paper pulp factory was established in Schwarza. This was given a siding in 1914 due to the steadily growing cargo handling. The “Saale” consumer association, which established itself in Schwarza in 1912/13 , also received such a siding. The Thuringian Zellwolle AG took over both rail connections in 1935/36 and expanded them. It also carried out freight transport for other customers. Mainly goods like coke and coal were received . In shipping, it was mainly chemical and synthetic fiber products.

In 1952 Schwarza was incorporated into Rudolstadt. The station was named "Rudolstadt-Schwarza".

From the 1960s onwards, there were over 100 cars that had to be prepared and dispatched every day. In addition, there was a daily full freight train with coal for the power plant, as well as the corresponding empty wagon train. The volume of freight traffic on this line was considerable up to the beginning of the 1990s. With the decline of industry after 1990, there were radical changes in Schwarza.

1995 the Erfurt industrial railway took over part of the traffic volume. In the course of time eight locomotives of the T 334 series from Czech production were used. From 1994 two of them came to Regensburg , the other six to Slovakia .

In 1992 the new B1 signal box went into operation. This replaced the previous signal boxes Sn and Ss.

With the electrification of the Saalbahn in the 1990s, track 3 had to give way because the space was needed for the new masts. Two new outer platforms were created. They were created in a different position to the old platforms and are located 200 meters north of them. A new pedestrian tunnel built in this context connects the two platforms. The federal highway 88 was then re-routed. The reception building, goods shed and all other facilities on the western side were removed in spring 2003. A reception building no longer exists.

On May 27, 2000, traffic on the route to Bad Blankenburg was stopped. The route from Schwarza to Bad Blankenburg directly through the Schwarzatal had to give way to the newly routed B 88. Plans to maintain the line and build a bridge over it failed due to the lack of financial support from Deutsche Bahn .

In 2004 Rudolstadt-Schwarza received a control computer that is controlled from Leipzig and Saalfeld. In November 2003, points were expanded that were no longer needed due to the closure of the Bad Blankenburg line. Since then there have been two continuous main tracks 1 and 2 as well as the non-electrified tracks 34, 35 and 36. Those three tracks were once sold by Deutsche Bahn to the connecting railway, but were bought back again.

In 2004/05 a paper mill was set up in Schwarza . For this purpose, track 34 was extended as a siding that leads into the factory premises.

At the same time, the southern exit of the station runs over a bridge over the Saale . In November 1890 this bridge was destroyed by a flood and then rebuilt. In 1925 it was renewed. After the Second World War , it was initially only in operation on a single track. In 1961 the no longer used part of the bridge was expanded because it was needed for the expansion of the route at Förtha . In 1972 the bridge was reinstalled as part of the renewed double-track expansion. Further renovations took place in 1989 and 1991.
