The Wolgast station is a through station in the town of Wolgast in the Vorpommern-Greifswald , which was opened. 1863 The Wolgast Hafen and Wolgaster Fähre train stations also exist next to it . That is why the operating site in Wolgast is often colloquially called Wolgast Hauptbahnhof . The station building is also a listed building .

Wolgast train station is located at 17.1 km of the route from Züssow to Wolgast . It is located about 750 m southeast of the city center and borders on Bahnhofstrasse and Schiffbauerdamm . The next station to the south is Hohendorf , which is around two kilometers away, and to the north it is the Wolgast Hafen stop, which is about one kilometer away.

In 1863 the Wolgast train station went into operation.

After 1945, the line from Züssow to Wolgast gained significantly in importance, so that the railway facilities in the station had to be expanded.

Platforms and tracks

Wolgast had two main tracks, which were 400 and 495 m long and each equipped with platforms . Eleven additional sidings were available for operational purposes, e.g. B. Storage, shunting and sorting tracks. These were about two kilometers long. Today they have been severely dismantled or even completely removed.

Today (2015) two platform tracks are available for passenger traffic . There are also two tracks without a platform, which are used very rarely.

Entrance building with signal box

The signal box in which the dispatcher works is located in the reception building . In the past there was also a train station restaurant , administrative rooms and apartments .

In 1976, in the course of the expansion of the station and line, the building was expanded to include an interlocking. However, this was only put into operation on May 28, 1978. At the same time, setting devices for points and signals were housed in simple wooden shacks at the end of the station. Entry signals and other important points were connected to the signal box. Today modern security systems are in use in Wolgast.

The station building has meanwhile been renovated and has the appropriate customer care and handling facilities. Instead of the previous ticket issue, there is now a travel and service center .

Freight transport

Wolgast station had full clearance rights in domestic and international traffic for goods and people.

For the freight one were Ladestraße with freight handling and loading ramps provided. There was also a weighbridge with a load capacity of 30 t and a 1.24 ton crane.

Connecting tracks

In the area of ​​the station there were still several connecting lines. One of them established a connection to and from the Peene shipyard . In addition there were the connecting railways of the National People's Army and the southern port .

Connection

Wolgast was served by the Usedomer Bäderbahn (UBB) from 1999-2017 , and since then by DB Regio Nordost . In addition, there was a seasonal IC train pair until summer 2016 ; first the line IC 26 , later the line IC 30 and finally the line IC 32 from Köln Hbf to Seebad Heringsdorf . The part of the train to Heringsdorf was through wagons on the route Cologne - Ostseebad Binz. This pair of trains was discontinued for the 2017 timetable. Since then there has been no long-distance traffic on the island of Usedom.
