The Bahnorama (own notation: bahnorama ) in Vienna was a lookout tower in 2010 to monitor the construction site of the main railway station in Vienna at the turn of the Sonnwendgasse of the favorites road was built in the 10th district and closed end, 2014. It was around 67 meters high, making it the highest accessible wooden tower in Europe. The viewing platform, to which two panorama lifts led, was 40 meters high. A maximum of 30 people were allowed to be on the viewing platform at the same time. There was also an information center and a café in the lower parts of the building. The tower (on its area there was previously a community building called Antonie-Alt-Hof ) was opened on August 19, 2010 by Transport Minister Doris Bures and Transport City Councilor Rudolf Schicker . An operating fee had to be paid for entering the observation tower.
After the new train station opened, the timber structure was sold at the end of 2014 to the specially founded company “Vienna Tower Transfer” based in Prague for EUR 20,000. This undertook to dismantle the tower by March 2015 at the latest and to sell it on to interested parties for subsequent use . But nothing has come of it so far: "Unfortunately, it turned out that the investor can neither successfully carry out the dismantling nor the recycling," said an ÖBB spokesman. As a result, an official procedure for the termination notice was initiated. "The building negotiations necessary for this will take place soon," the building police confirmed. In July 2016 it became known that Municipal Department 25 had awarded the contract for the forced demolition to the cheapest company. The demolition was carried out in October 2016.
In October 2015, the second highest accessible wooden tower in Europe received an award from “pro Holz Austria” at “wienwood 2015”. Graf-Holztechnik won the award in the “Commercial building” category.
