The Beroun – Rudná u Prahy railway is a branch line ("regionální dráha") and former main line ("celostátní dráha") in the Czech Republic . It starts in Beroun and leads to Rudná u Prahy . It is one of the few railways of the former ku k monarchy that was planned and built by the state.

history

Projects for a railway between the Dušníky station (today: Rudná u Prahy) of the Prague-Dux Railway and the Beraun station of the Bohemian Western Railway had existed since the end of the 1870s. In addition to local agriculture, the Prague Iron Industry Company in Kladno in particular needed this route for shipping their products and for obtaining iron ore from the pits near Chrustenice . A lack of financial resources on the part of the Prague-Dux Railway ultimately prevented a quick implementation. At times there was also a project to convert the existing mining railway from Kladno ( Kladensko-nučická dráha ) , which ended in Nučice, to a public line and to extend it to the section of the Bohemian Western Railway.

On June 19, 1895, the Austrian state promised extensive discounts for the construction and operation of the line, as previously only granted for the construction of local railways. For a concession period of 76 years, the state guaranteed an annual return on investment capital of 4 percent annually. Nevertheless, a private railway company was not founded, so that the state ultimately took over the construction of the line itself.

The kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) opened the line as the second-class main line on December 18, 1897.

The Heidelberger Zement lime works in Loděnice has its own connecting railway

After the First World War, the line was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). Their first timetable from 1919 only recorded two continuous pairs of passenger trains between Dušníky and Beroun. Back then, the shortest travel time over the 23-kilometer route was 41 minutes.

The Loděnice train station was the location for the 1966 film Love According to a Timetable by Jiří Menzel .

On January 1, 1993, the line came to the newly founded Czech state railway organization České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . The 1995 timetable recorded a total of ten continuous pairs of passenger trains between Prague and Beroun. Other trains ran on partial routes on weekdays.

In 2010, regular passenger services will only be offered on weekdays. There is an hourly service between Prague and Nučice from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. , with individual trains connecting to and from Beroun during rush hour . On the weekends only a few trains run, which are primarily used for excursion traffic.

Today goods traffic is mainly provided for the doly Mořina lime works . It is handled by ČD Cargo with block trains.
