The Håkantorp – Lidköping railway line ( Swedish Lidköping – Håkantorps Järnväg (HLJ)) was a narrow-gauge railway line between Håkantorp and Lidköping in Skaraborgs län in Sweden that was put into operation in 1877 .

It is part of the Gårdsjö – Håkantorp railway in Västergötland , which has been called Kinnekullebanan since the name reform of the Swedish railway lines by Banverket in 1990 .

Lidköping – Håkantorps järnvägsaktiebolag

The railway line was built by Lidköping – Håkantorps järnvägsaktiebolag and began in Håkantorp, from where the Uddevalla – Vänersborg – Herrljunga Järnväg (UWHJ), built with 1217 mm gauge, started. The HLJ station was built east of the existing UWHJ infrastructure. The line ended west of the Lidan in Lidköping V station and was opened to traffic on December 12, 1877.

Two steam locomotives were procured to operate the line :

The company soon ran into financial problems and had to file for bankruptcy in 1886 .

Acquisition by Lidköping – Skara – Stenstorps Järnväg

Between 1886 and 1891 Lidköping – Skara – Stenstorps Järnväg (LSSJ) tried several times to acquire the HLJ at auction, which only succeeded the third time. LSSJ raised 350,000 kroner and built a bridge over the Lidan River to connect both parts of the business. After the bridge was opened and operations began on June 6, 1893, Lidköping V station was closed.

In 1902 LSSJ sold the previously purchased HLJ with the vehicles acquired at the time to the city of Lidköping. The 1910 bill showed construction costs of 824,700 kroner, of which the vehicles had a share of 140,400 kroner. the share capital was 427,205 crowns. Lidköping was the seat of the joint stock company.

After the opening of the Håkantorp – Tumleberg section through Västergötland – Göteborgs järnvägsaktiebolag (VGJ) in 1900, through trains ran from Forshem via Håkantorp to Tumleberg.

The city of Linköping transferred the HLJ together with the Kinnekulle – Lidköpings järnväg in 1912 to Lidköpings järnvägar .

nationalization

In 1948, as part of the general nationalization of the railway, the line was taken over by Statens Järnvägar like other narrow-gauge lines in Skaraborgs län, integrated into their network and organization, and converted to standard gauge in 1953.

The remains of the port railway in Lidköping were closed due to the expansion of an industrial area.
