Railway line Håkantorp – Lidköping to Håkantorp

The Lidköping – Forshem ( Swedish: Kinnekulle – Lidköpings järnväg (Ki. LJ)) was a narrow-gauge railway between Lidköping and Forshem in Skaraborgs län in Sweden that was put into operation in 1897/1898 .

It is part of the Gårdsjö – Håkantorp railway in Västergötland , which has been called Kinnekullebanan since the name reform of the Swedish railway lines by Banverket in 1990 .

Kinnekulle – Lidköpings järnvägsaktiebolag

The Kinnekulle – Lidköpings järnvägsaktiebolag built the 29 kilometer long Kinnekulle – Lidköpings järnväg with a track width of 891 mm in the years 1897/1898. It leads from Forshem, where it joined the Mariestad – Kinnekulle järnväg , via Hällekis and Råbäck along the Vänern and between the lake and the Kinnekulle mountain to Lidköping . There, in turn, the line had a connection with Lidköping – Skara – Stenstorps järnväg and Lidköping – Håkantorps järnväg . Between Forshem and Hällekis it crossed Västergötland – Göteborgs järnväg .

Baron Carl Klingspor, owner of Råbäck Castle, was one of the initiators for the establishment of the joint stock company.

The Hällekis – Lidköping section was handed over to its destination on December 20, 1897 and the Forshem – Hällekis section on December 8, 1898. In the meantime, the passengers had to walk to Hönsäters hamn and from there take the Skara-Kinnekulle-Vänerns Järnväg (SKWJ) to Gössäter, where they had a connection with Mariestad-Kinnekulle Järnväg via Forshem to Mariestad.

The bill of December 31, 1909 listed construction costs of 849,935 crowns . The rolling stock was booked with 190,900 crowns, the share capital was 419,500 crowns. Lidköping was the seat of the joint stock company .

Lidköping-Håkantorps Järnväg (HLJ) had been owned by the City of Linköping since 1902. These as well as the Ki. LJ were administered from 1912 by the newly founded Lidköpings järnvägar consortium .

Industrial railways

There were numerous sand-lime quarries and cement works in the region . These maintained extensive island networks of industrial railways of different gauges, such as the route from the quarries in Hällekis and Hönsäter to the cement factory at the harbor in Hönsäter or from the Trolmen quarry to the local train station and the port of Råbäck.

nationalization

The line was taken over by Statens Järnvägar in 1948 as part of the general nationalization of the railway, like other narrow-gauge lines in Skaraborgs län. It was integrated into their network and organization. The route between Lidköping and Forshem, which had been converted to standard gauge, was opened on May 20, 1954. On the same date, the standard gauge connection of the port in Hönsäter took place, the previous narrow-gauge connection of the Skara-Kinnekulle-Vänerns Järnväg from Gössäter to the port of Hönsäter was closed and in 1955 reduced.
