The Harlösa – Bjärred railway was a standard-gauge Swedish railway line . It was operated from July 1, 1918 by the newly founded Bjärred – Lund – Harlösa Järnväg (BLHJ), a private railway company between Bjärred and Harlösa .

Bjärred – Lund – Harlösa Järnväg

The company was formed on July 1, 1918 and was a merger of the two original railway companies Lund – Bjärreds Järnvägsaktiebolag (LBJ) and Lund – Revinge Järnvägsaktiebolag (LReJ). At the same time, the concessions of the two former companies were transferred to the new company.

The traffic was very different on in the two sections. There was little freight traffic between Lund and Bjärred . The passenger traffic, especially in the bathing season during the summer, was very extensive. On the Lund – Harlösa section, freight traffic was dominated by stone and gravel transports, and there were also sugar beets to be transported and military transports to be carried out.

The two parts of the route had no direct connection with each other, so that no through trains could run.

Traction vehicles

In 1935/36 additional steam locomotives were procured in addition to the existing locomotives :

Development and decommissioning

In the run-up to the general nationalization of the railways in Sweden , the state commission determined in 1936 that the Lund – Bjärred route was an uninteresting tram line. For the Lund – Harlösa section, it was stated that apart from the operation of the quarry in Hardeberga, the route also seemed unimportant. The freight wagons from the quarry could also be transported via Sjöbo. This traffic should be carried out with motor locomotives. Due to the constant deficits, SJ were not interested in taking over the entire traffic.

Eventually the city of Lund was forced to request the closure of the route. This was approved and all traffic officially ended on June 15, 1939. Small wagonload traffic was carried out on parts of the route despite the lack of fuel in World War II .

On the date mentioned, all traffic on the Lund Västra – Bjärred section and the Flädie – Leråkra branch was suspended. The little remaining traffic between Flädie and Nybble ended in autumn 1939. From this point on, the catenary was switched off. On June 15, 1939, passenger traffic between Högevall and Hardeberga and all traffic between Hardeberga and Harlösa were suspended. Gravel transports between Revingehed and Hardeberga took place until June 1940.

The tracks on the Bjärred – Leråkra and Fjelie – Lund Västra sections and the Hardeberga – Revingehed section were dismantled in 1940. .

Takeover by SJ

Various track systems, which SJ expected to be profitable, were taken over by the state in 1940. These were the three-kilometer section between Flädie and Fjelie and the two-kilometer section from Harlösa to Revingehed. Between Flädie and Fjelie, wagonloads were sporadically delivered until 1955. In 1958 this track was dismantled. The sporadic freight traffic on the Harlösa – Revingehed section was maintained until 1978. The dismantling took place here in 1984.

Freight traffic through SJ, especially trains to the quarry, took place on the remainder between Högevall and Hardeberga until November 8, 1965. On this date the traffic between Lund Södra and Hardeberga was stopped. Freight wagons were transported between Högevall and Lund Södra until March 3, 1966. In 1966 the entire section of the route was dismantled.
