The Mikulovice – Zlaté Hory railway is a railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated as a local railway by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) . It branches off in Mikulovice u Jeseníku ( Niklasdorf ) from the Hanušovice – Głuchołazy railway line and leads to Zlaté Hory ( Zuckmantel ) in the Jeseníky Mountains .

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

The line was opened on October 31, 1896. The kkStB ran the business itself.

In 1912, the local railroad's timetable showed a total of five mixed train pairs. They needed between 32 and 42 minutes for the eight-kilometer route.

After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in October 1918, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). At the end of the 1920s, the timetable was significantly compressed and travel times were shortened to around 20 minutes for most trains. The winter timetable of 1937/38 recorded a total of ten pairs of trains that stopped at all subway stations.

After the Sudetenland was annexed to Germany in autumn 1938, the line came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Opole . In the Reich course book the connection was included as course book route 151y Niklasdorf – Zuckmantel . After the end of the Second World War , the route was completely returned to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

Zlaté Hory station (2012)

In the 2012 annual timetable, the route was served by a total of nine pairs of daily passenger trains, the majority of which were connected to and from Jeseník and Lipová-lázně . On Sundays, an express train ran from Zlaté Hory to Olomouc , which was mainly used for excursions. With the timetable change on December 9, 2012, the weekday passenger train traffic was finally discontinued in favor of a bus line. Since then, there are only four pairs of passenger trains running on Saturdays and Sundays, each of which has a connection to the Jeseník – Głuchołazy – Krnov trains in Mikulovice.

Route description

The route leaves the Mikulovice in an easterly direction and then runs parallel to the road II / 457 in the Olešnice valley in a southerly direction uphill. To the east of Ondřejovice , the route leaves the valley and crosses the watershed to Zlatý potok , where it ends in Zlaté Hory above the town center.
