The Tarnowskie Góry – Zawiercie (Tarnowitz – Warthenau) railway is a partly still operated, partly disused railway line in the Polish Voivodeship of Silesia .

Course and condition

The Tarnowskie Góry – Zawiercie railway begins at the Tarnowskie Góry (Tarnowitz) station on the Chorzów – Tczew railway line , the so-called coal highway , and runs first northwards through the Tarnowskie Góry marshalling yard, then east via Siewierz (Sewern; km 30,201) to Zawiercie ( Warthen; km 30,201) km 44,949) on the Warsaw – Katowice railway line .

As the first section, the Poręba –Zawiercie section was opened as a single-track freight train line by the Polish State Railways on July 22, 1937 , the remaining line Tarnowitz (Tarnowskie Góry) - Warthenau (Zawiercie) was opened on August 10, 1942 under German occupation by the Deutsche Reichsbahn , at the same time, the previous section of passenger traffic was added. The timetable of May 1943 provided for three pairs of trains.

On July 1, 1964 on the section Tarnowskie Góry - Miasteczko Śląskie Żyglin the passenger traffic was stopped, on the remaining route to Zawiercie it was maintained until July 30, 1975. Freight traffic has also been suspended since then, except in the area of ​​the Tarnowskie Góry marshalling yard and on the Siewierz – Tarnowskie Góry section. 2000 in Miasteczko Śląskie the bridge over the narrow-gauge railway Pole Północne - Bibiela and the 908 voivodship road was demolished.
